There's a new generation of Mom-and-Pop joints. In this contemporary version, we swap out the grey-haired immigrants with thick European accents for a power food couple, like Isaac Becker and Nancy St. Pierre of 112 Eatery, who have cut their chops in the industry. But the spirit carries on. You're still able to see the owners working their tails off, offering great and attentive service, and you're still able to experience food that has been carefully put on the plate with love and attention. At 112 Eatery, the food embodies the essence of an enterprise owned by people who passionately work it day in and day out: under promise and over deliver. Simply listed as cold cuts w/ pickles on the menu, the plate that arrives is generously piled with imported cured meats, homemade gherkins, and brilliant freshly made mustard. The adroitly termed French cheeseburger comes topped with a creamy, melty chunk of Brie. For $7. Potentially splashier items, like the rib-eye and pork tenderloin, are dressed with flavorful accompaniments, but remain humble in the eyes of the eater. If wait times are any indication, 112's version seems to be working.
