We can’t help calling Grand Café one of 'our' neighborhood places, not because we live so close, but because we know we can drop in as we are, and be served a great meal every time. Grand Cafe fills an old European bakery storefront and shows off the original ovens behind the tiny wine bar. The kitchen turns out classic American and Continental bistro fare, with an emphasis on local and seasonal products. Every visit brings new introductions of creatively crafted veggies, fruits, meats, breads, and dairy: house-smoked sausages and Kobe beef brisket, home-cured duck proscuitto, hand-rolled gnocchi, and fresh cheeses and sauces. For a special but unpretentious visit with friends, we like to share the beet salad, the melange starter plate with cured meats, and the nightly steamer selection. It's best to visit Grand Cafe with someone whose order will complement yours, so that the fish of the day or the vegetarian dish can commingle with the short ribs or pork chops on your pleasure scale.
